Cathedral Quarter announce ‘Friar Gate Friday’ event to showcase local businesses

Activities to celebrate Friar Gate take place this Friday evening, the 18th November, and everyone is invited!

Derby Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) has organised Friar Gate Friday, to showcase local bars, restaurants, and other businesses.

The family-friendly event starts at 5pm, and includes live music, outdoor street food, karaoke, and cocktails. There’s also a children’s bouncy castle, a visit by Mrs Claus and a kids’ rave for families and children from 5pm to 8pm!

For the adults, many of the venues in Friar Gate have arranged additional activities and entertainment until late.

Five-piece band, Deep Down Brass, the Cover Brothers, and DJ Subrex, will all entertain visitors to the area, whilst circus acts will perform on the street, including a light-up hula hoop artist, stilt walkers and a diablo and poi show.

Ahead of Friday 18th, visitors are encouraged to download the money-saving app, Loyal Free, to enjoy more money-off deals and gear up for a competition using a new interactive trail called the Friar Gate Friday Trail. Revellers who ‘check in’ at all the venues listed on the trail will be entered into a prize draw to win a bar tab or restaurant voucher worth £100 to be used at a future date in a Friar Gate venue of the winner’s choosing.

Brad Worley, Manager of the Cathedral Quarter BID, said:

“This is going to be such a great event and we have worked extremely hard together with the local businesses to make it happen. We are starting at 5pm, so families can join in the fun, but after 8pm there will be plenty of entertainment for those looking for a party atmosphere, which will carry on until late in the evening.

“We have had such a great response from the venues on Friar Gate and we really are keen to showcase the businesses who are taking part. We would like to thank everyone for getting involved in this community-led event and we look forward to welcoming visitors on the evening.”

Martin Langsdale, MBE Chair of the Cathedral Quarter BID, said:

“Friar Gate Friday is going to be so much fun, and we are really looking forward to it.

“The BID wanted to celebrate Friar Gate and create an event that welcomes visitors to the area. No doubt, people will love seeing all circus entertainment and live music. Everyone is welcome and we would love to create something special in Derby.”
