Gillotts pledges to help local families as it launches its 2022 Christmas tree appeal

A Heanor funeral firm has promised to help put food on the table of local families once again by raising money for a local foodbank through its memorial Christmas tree charity appeal.

Gillotts Funeral Directors will launch its annual appeal as the town council turns on its Christmas lights, on Saturday, November 19, with fair rides, a festive market and a firework finale planned for the occasion.

The company, which has its office in Abbott Street, is inviting relatives of loved ones who have died during the year to leave messages of remembrance on Christmas trees and, for every message left on the branches of the trees, Gillotts will donate £1 to its charity fund.

Gillotts, which also has branches in Eastwood, Stapleford, Kimberley and Selston, has held the appeal every year since 2005. This year, the funds will be split between local foodbanks as families continue to feel the pinch.

Anthony Topley, a partner in Gillotts Funeral Directors, said that everybody at the company is looking forward to welcoming families to its offices.

He said:

“This event is always popular and it’s nice to welcome local families to our premises on the switch-on night.

“We had a wonderful response last year with people leaving messages for loved ones. We also had messages left for pets who had passed away.

“Proceeds from the annual Christmas appeal will be donated to good causes, including Salcare in Heanor, who do so much good work to support families who are struggling to make ends meet.”

Daniella Thorpe, who works for the charity, thanked Gillotts for their continued support.

She said:

“Christmas is always a difficult time for families and we have seen more and more people visit us during school holidays.

“We provide a much-needed service including a furniture warehouse – we can create furniture packages for families – and the food bank. We’re a one-stop shop and as demand increases, it’s great to have the support of local companies such as Gillotts Funeral Directors.”
