Students to make use of old vehicles

The phrase: “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure”, rings true at West Nottinghamshire College’s Engineering Innovation Centre, as mechanical engineering students have a request for the public.

That’s because they are asking the community for any old vehicles to be donated to their curriculum area to assist them with their studies.

As part of their programmes, students from Level 1 courses through to Level 3, are required to work on vehicles to ensure they are familiar with the workings of the engine, suspension systems, brakes, tyres and exhaust systems.

Students and their tutors are calling for member of the public to consider donating any old cars or car-sized vans which have come to the end of their life.

Programme area leader for automotive, Andy Gray, said:

“It might be that your vehicle has failed the MOT and isn’t economical to repair anymore. These are the perfect projects for our students to experience hands-on learning in the workshop.

“Once we have done all we can with the projects, all vehicles are then dismantled and scrapped.”
