WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY BACKED BY LEICESTERSHIRE HOUSEBUILDER’S BOOK DONATION

In recognition of World Mental Health Day (10th October), Leicestershire housebuilders Barratt and David Wilson Homes have donated a collection of books to New Lubbesthorpe Primary School in Leicester.

The donation included 24 books by Usborne Publishing, which aims to support children’s mental health.

World Mental Health Day, founded by The Mental Health Foundation, encourages the discussion of mental health among individuals with the aim to make psychological wellbeing a priority for all across the globe.

Titles such as ‘The Unworry Book’ by Alice James, ‘All About Feelings’ by Felicity Brooks and 'Social Media Survival Guide’ by Holly Bathie were among the books donated.

Many of the books include interactive features to help the children express their feelings and relieve anxiety.

The school – located near the housebuilders’ New Lubbesthorpe development off Tweed Street – was delighted to receive the donation to promote positivity and encourage children to be more open about their mental health.

Louisa Hill, Year 4 Teacher at New Lubbesthorpe Primary School, said:

“We were absolutely delighted to receive a donation of mental health books from Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

“Encouraging the discussion around mental health, especially among young people, is so important and the children have already begun to make use of the interactive elements the books have to offer.”

Rachael Harrison, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said:

“We hope that by donating books by a range of authors, children will be encouraged to consider their own mental health, and also the health of their peers in the playground and in everyday life.”

Martyn Parker, Sales Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said:

“World Mental Health Day is such an important initiative, and we relish the opportunity to reach out to schools within our community and provide support for such a deserving cause.”
