World Mental Health Day backed by Nottinghamshire housebuilder’s book donation

In recognition of World Mental Health Day (10th October), Nottinghamshire housebuilder Barratt and David Wilson Homes has donated a collection of books to Gateford Park Primary School in Worksop.

The donation included 12 books by Usborne Publishing, which aims to support children’s mental health.

World Mental Health Day, founded by The Mental Health Foundation, encourages the discussion of mental health among individuals with the aim to make psychological wellbeing a priority for all across the globe.

Titles such as ‘The Unworry Book’ by Alice James, ‘All About Feelings’ by Felicity Brooks and 'Social Media Survival Guide’ by Holly Bathie were among the books donated.

Many of the books include interactive features to help the children express their feelings and relieve anxiety.

The school – located near the housebuilder’s Gateford Park development off Gatekeeper Way – was delighted to receive the donation to promote positivity and encourage children to be more open about their mental health.

Sophie Gough, Key Stage 2 Lead at Gateford Park Primary School, said:

“We are extremely grateful for Barratt Homes’ kind donation. These books will be used to raise awareness of mental health across our school and help children negotiate their way through challenges both within school and outside school.

“Our wellbeing ambassadors do an excellent job of supporting their peers here at Gateford Park Primary School and our mental health lead, Mrs Clare Hibbert, will be able to use these books to contribute to our broad curriculum.”

Martyn Parker, Sales Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said:

“We hope that by donating books by a range of authors, children will be encouraged to consider their own mental health, and also the health of their peers in the playground and in everyday life.

“World Mental Health Day is such an important initiative, and we relish the opportunity to reach out to schools within our community and provide support for such a deserving cause.”
