Nottinghamshire site managers recognised as best in the country

10 site managers who work for David Wilson Homes East Midlands, based in Coalville, have all secured national awards for the quality of build at new housing developments across the region.

Four of the winning site managers oversee the delivery of new homes in Nottinghamshire, and have each earnt a top industry Pride in the Job Quality Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC). These prestigious awards are known as the “Oscars of the housebuilding industry”.

Nationally, site managers working for David Wilson Homes and its parent company Barratt Developments have won 98 Pride in the Job Quality Awards this year, achieving more honours than any other housebuilder for 18 years in a row.

David Wilson Homes Senior Site Manager, Dane Mumford – who manages the Romans’ Quarter development in Bingham – has now achieved his fifth consecutive Pride in the Job Award, including two Seal of Excellence awards, after over eight years with the developer.

Dane Mumford (36) said: It’s a real privilege to be considered as a winner again this year.

“To win the award and be named amongst so much talent within the East region is every Site Manager’s ambition within the housing sector. I owe it all to the trades, operatives, site labourers, forklift drivers, subcontractors, and management team as without their commitment and efforts this would not be possible.”

Site Manager Dane McMurtry and Senior Site Managers Liam Hathaway and John Brebner were also named as winners in this year’s competition.

Dane McMurtry (38) started working for the company back in 2013 as a Trainee Site Manager and currently oversees the Fernwood Village development in Fernwood.

He said:

“It feels great to have won my first ever award as Site Manager, as it means all the hard work that me and the team have put in has paid off. I’d like to thank our Deputy Site Manager, Jack Bailey, who has been instrumental in the success of the site.”

Liam (44), who has worked at David Wilson Homes for 26 and a half years, secured an award for the quality of build achieved at The Skylarks development in East Leake.

He said:

“The win feels just as fantastic as it has in previous years – this is the eighth award I’ve won on my fifth site, so it’s been great to share the achievement with a new team of people. I’d like to thank everyone in the team as without their hard work, this wouldn’t be able to happen.”

John (55), who manages the Fernwood Village development, has been working with the company for the past eight years. He has previously won five Pride in the Job awards and two Seal of Excellence awards.

John said:

“I am immensely proud of my team, from the managers, contractors and especially the trades on site, for what we have achieved in this difficult year with both the aftereffects of COVID-19 and issues with the procurement and delivery of material. Everyone has worked hard to deliver a quality product we can be proud of.

“I’d like to thank Bill Moore (Deputy Site Manager), Adam Kirby (Assistant Site Manager), my contractors and especially the trades on site, as without them buying into what I expect regarding quality, this award wouldn’t be possible.”

The Pride in the Job Awards showcase the best site managers in the country who can demonstrate exceptional standards in building new communities, delivering the highest quality homes for their customers. Each site manager is judged on a range of key criteria including health and safety, their technical knowledge, customer service and attention to detail.

Every site manager who is registered with the NHBC is automatically entered into the awards, with just 450 winners being selected from over 11,000 entrants.

The awards also help to build quality standards across developments and teams, with winning site managers invariably having an assistant site manager working with them. They in turn learn the high standards that are needed to win, increasing quality throughout the industry.

John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said:

“We want to make our customers happy by building high quality homes for them. These awards recognise only the best new homes and well-run developments and we are very proud of our record having won more of these awards than any other housebuilder for 18 years in a row.

“Every customer who buys a home built by a site manager who has won a Pride in the Job Quality award can have confidence that their home is of the highest possible quality.”

These awards closely follow Barratt Developments being awarded five stars by its customers for satisfaction in the annual Home Builders Federation (HBF) new homes survey. To be rated five star means that more than 90% of its customers would recommend one of its homes to a friend, with the developer being the only major national housebuilder to be rated five star for 13 years in a row.
