Focus raises more than £2,500 for the Disaster Emergency Committee

Heritage, housing and sustainability consultant, Focus, has raised £2,515 for the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) after completing a virtual 1,725-mile journey.

Members of the Focus teams in Nottingham, Leicester and London joined forces to undertake the challenge to raise money for the DEC, which is currently running appeals in support of Ukraine and Afghanistan.

The Focus team chose the distance of 1,725 miles because it represents the distance between the UK and Ukraine – and they completed the distance – and more - by walking, swimming, running, cycling and rowing.

To mark the occasion of exceeding both the target distance and the fundraising target of £1,000 and to recognise the teams’ efforts, the Focus offices in London and Nottingham hosted a bake sale and homecoming tea to say thank you as well as raising a further £160 to add to the £1,355 raised via generous donations and a £1,000 donation from the company.

“Being unashamedly passionate about reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment, the team’s endeavour was human-powered therefore leaving a minimal carbon footprint,” explained Jason Redfearn, managing partner at Focus, which has its headquarters in Nottingham and offices in Leicester and London.

“It's hard to escape the challenges the world currently faces, be it conflict or climate related. The Focus teams were eager to show their support and being the creative, fun and active team that we are, wished to go one step further, creating an exciting challenge in the process to raise as much awareness and money as possible, during our challenge for the DEC.

“We would like to say a big thank you to friends, family, colleagues and clients who donated as well as to our amazing team for their time and efforts.”

The DEC is a partnership of 15 leading UK charities that provide food, medical care, and shelter to refugees and vulnerable people. It is one of the most effective organisations in the world in delivering aid in times of crisis.
