Awards Launched to Celebrate the Best of Nottinghamshire Village

The first Rudd Awards, launched by Ruddington Village Community Partnership (RVCP) this month [July], have been created to celebrate the very best that the thriving village has to offer and nominations are now open.

With six categories sponsored by locally based companies covering ‘Sports, leisure and culture’, ‘Village retailer or service’, ‘Village hospitality’, ‘Community Group’, ‘Volunteer or Fundraiser’ and ‘Young Person’, the RVCP team hope to draw nominations for a range of individuals, groups and businesses that are making a real difference to building a vibrant and prosperous life in the village.

In addition, a seventh award, sponsored by the event’s lead sponsor Artex, will be selected by the awards committee, to recognise an individual or group that has demonstrated extraordinary service to Ruddington and its community over time.

Nominations for the awards can be made online at www.rvcp.org.uk/awards and paper forms will be available from the Parish Office in St Peter’s Rooms during office hours.

Mike Ader, RVCP Chair, comments:

“The Rudd Awards showcase and honour the great and good within Ruddington village. The aim is for us to shine a spotlight on Ruddington and the individuals, groups and businesses who make the village a great place to live, work and visit. We want to recognise and thank those who, time and time again, go the extra mile helping to raise the profile of the village and help to build its unique identity.”

Nominations are open from Saturday 9th July and people have until mid-August to put forward their favourites in each category, with a reason why they have been chosen.

The shortlist will be announced in September and following judging by a local independent panel, the winners will be announced at the awards evening on Friday 18th November 2022 at Ruddington’s St Peters Church, compared by BBC Radio Nottingham Drivetime presenter, Verity Cowley.

Jason Smith, Managing Director at Artex Ltd, added:

“We’re delighted to be sponsoring the Ruddington Awards which celebrate many of the characteristics and attitudes that we value as an organisation. As a local employer we love to see our community thriving and are excited to be taking part in this wonderful event to recognise the shining stars who are doing great work to develop the village.”

The awards are just one of several community initiatives set up by RVCP as part of its aims to encourage everyone within the community to play an active role in the future of a prosperous, confident village. For example, Ruddington Village Market, established in 2018 to boost High Street footfall and bring people into the heart of the community has gone from several stalls in a pub car park to a monthly destination market with over 70 stalls.
