Housebuyers in Keyworth to be offered rewilding kits to encourage wildlife to thrive

New homebuilder, Miller Homes East Midlands, is to offer rewilding kits to housebuyers at its Spinners Croft development in Keyworth, Nottinghamshire.

Those who purchase a home at the development throughout Summer (June through to August 2022), will receive the kits containing a bee hotel, bird food and flower bombs. Together, it is hoped these incentives will help boost the nation’s declining bee population and make new build developments, like Spinners Croft, a fundamental part of the ecosystem.

According to the UK Research and Innovation organisation, the total area of UK gardens adds up to more land than our nature reserves and national parks combined – making the average homeowner’s garden an important green space for bees and other wildlife to flourish.

Area sales director for Miller Homes Midlands, Alastair Parsons, explained:

“I’m delighted to be kickstarting this initiative at our Spinners Croft development in Keyworth, Nottinghamshire – particularly with such beautiful green spaces just a stone’s throw away and the abundance of parks, woods and gardens nearby, despite being just nine-miles from the centre of Nottingham."

“The last two years have highlighted just how important green areas are to our physical and mental wellbeing, and we’re eager to encourage our househunters to take advantage of their own back gardens in order to create a space that’s not only beneficial for us, but also the UK’s wildlife.”

Its efforts to provide an environment fit for the abundance of wildlife span the region. The Dukes Field neighbourhood in Desford, Leicestershire, has seen a series of enhancements designed to support local ecosystems including the introduction of a pond and hibernaculum and the installation of bat boxes into new homes.

Despite Keyworth’s close proximity to Nottingham, the area is well-known for its natural beauty and quaint village lifestyle.
