Solar Powered Showrooms Save Tonnes of CO2

Solar Powered Showrooms Save Tonnes of CO2

Nottingham Renewable Energy Company, Geo Green Power, have partnered with Inchcape UK to install solar PV systems across their UK network of car showrooms, saving around £500,000 a year and cutting their annual carbon footprint by 1,000 tonnes of CO₂.

Inchcape, one of the leading franchised retailer groups in the UK, has signed a multimillion-pound contract with Geo Green Power to install Solar Photovoltaic systems on a large portion of their estate across the next 6-12 months.

The franchise dealership specialist first investigated renewable energy in 2020 and contracted Geo Green Power to install solar PV on three trial sites – Oxford, Portsmouth and Norwich. Inchcape operates over 100 sites across the UK and their ambition is to install this second tranche before 2023. When the project is completed the combined CO₂ savings will equate to 1,000 tonnes per annum, which is the same as taking 200 petrol cars off the road!

David Tyler, Director of Estates and Facilities at Inchcape, explained:

“The car industry as a whole has been given a major challenge in terms of our environmental impact with the ban of the sale of new diesel and petrol cars planned from 2030. At Inchcape we’re rising to this challenge, embracing new technology and wanted to do everything in our power to improve our sustainability.”

With over 100 car showroom roofs across the UK; solar panels are a perfect option for Inchcape. David added:

“Following the tender process we were delighted to award our initial contract to Geo Green Power for our trial sites. The process was incredibly smooth from start to finish and our first sites are now enjoying free, green electricity, protecting them against the huge increase in electricity costs that we are seeing. The obvious next step was to crack on and get the same solution installed at more sites.”

Geo Green Power have been providing renewable energy systems to homes and businesses for over 10 years, specialising in solar PV, battery storage, EV charging and renewable heating. High energy costs and increasing awareness of the impact of fossil fuel usage on the environment are encouraging more and more UK businesses to investigate renewable energy options.

James Cunningham, Geo Green Power Sales Director, said:

“We’re absolutely delighted to be partnering with Inchcape to help them meet their sustainable goals. Car showrooms, like many large industrial units, are perfect for solar PV installations and can literally save businesses £100,000s. With today’s energy prices businesses can see a return on investment in as little as 4-5 years and significantly cut their carbon emissions in the process.

“The fact that three of Inchcape’s showrooms can run solely on solar power for a portion of the year is a huge testament to what this technology can achieve.”
