Alphageek founders celebrate the power of teamwork as they are shortlisted for young entrepreneur awards

Three young founders of a fast-growing Derby digital agency have paid tribute to the power of teamwork after they were shortlisted for two entrepreneurial awards.

Art Lindop, Kieran Flynn and Alex Mills, who operate Alphageek Digital, have been announced as finalists in both the Breakthrough and Entrepreneur of the Year categories of the East Midlands Chamber Generation Next 2022 awards.

The awards are open to individuals who are aged under 35 as part of the Chamber’s campaign to bring together and inspire a new generation of entrepreneur and business owners.

Art is 25, Alex is 26 and Kieran is 24 and they have all been entered as a trio into both categories, and will now have to wait until July to hear if they have been successful.

Their achievement has come at the end of a stellar year for Alphageek, which offers online advertising, pay-per-click campaigns, web design and development, content creation, and brand amplification services.

Originally set up in 2019, Alphageek’s first big client was Casio, for which it has achieved over £1m worth of online sales for its iconic G-SHOCK watches, which are beloved of celebrities including Eminem, John Mayer and Ed Sheeran.

Alphageek now looks after the online activity for around 50 companies in four continents across a range of industries and its clients include Bustler Derby, Project D and HUUB and Cubo. In the past year it has grown from 4 staff to 14, increased its turnover to just under £1m and has also relocated to a new office at Cubo in Victoria Street, Derby.

Now, with larger premises at its disposal, Alphageek is now launching a new recruitment campaign to fill seven new roles across the company and add to its current team, without whom Art, Kieran and Alex say they wouldn’t have made the shortlist.

Art, who is the managing director alongside Kieran, who is the operations director and Alex, who is business development director, said:

“It feels amazing to have been nominated for both of these awards after such an amazing year in which Alphageek has really come into its own and is getting the kind of results that we always believed we were capable of.

“None of it’s been easy or straightforward and that’s where we’ve definitely benefitted from having such a great team around us. From top to bottom, Alphageek’s commitment to excellence helps drive us forward. On top of this, it’s our care for everyone in the Alphageek family, both our team members and clients, that really helps to set us apart.”

Kieran, who first met Art when they were best friends at school, said:

“Each of us brings different skills to the company, which has helped us to overcome challenges, develop our approach and grow the business.

“We focus on understanding the data behind our services and auditing our processes to make sure that we are always making improvements, but we also share the same outlook and appetite for hard work, especially during lockdown when we all worked very long hours and didn’t take time off because we needed to be there for our clients.

“It’s great that the company culture and successful recruitment has filtered this through to the team who now deliver this with the same passion and care.”

Alex added:

“We’re so appreciative of being shortlisted, we’ve worked hard the last couple of years so it’s great to see this effort being recognised. We also couldn’t be more thankful to our incredible team for everything they do as we wouldn’t be in this position without them.

“Our industry is fast-paced, exciting and full of opportunities, but it’s changing all the time. To make sure we continue delivering top results we have to be on the ball, constantly learning and ready to adapt - maybe with the odd bit of hard work.”

There are 10 categories in the Generation Next awards, which will be announced at a ceremony at The Chocolate Factory, in Siddals Road, Derby, on July 14.
