Shakespeare Martineau sees double with partner hires

Leading full service law firm Shakespeare Martineau has welcomed two new partners to its commercial property and development team.

David Wells joins the firm with more than 21 years’ experience in commercial real estate, while Sat Ubhi brings with him more than 15 years’ experience in real estate, energy and infrastructure. David and Sat will be primarily based at Shakespeare Martineau’s London and Nottingham office hubs respectively, but working with clients nationally.

Having previously worked at Hewitsons and Eversheds Sutherland, David has extensive experience in real estate investment and landlord and tenant matters, particularly in the logistics, investment, education and healthcare sectors.

David said:

“Shakespeare Martineau has exceptional values, which are centred on authentic relationships with clients and colleagues, and a commitment to growth through strong client service delivery.

“I am dedicated to building deep client relationships based on understanding their businesses and sectors. I find the commercial aspects of the real estate industry far more interesting than the law, which helps me to focus on the most relevant and salient aspects of a deal and to obtain results as efficiently and effectively as possible.”

Sat joins Shakespeare Martineau from Pinsent Masons, where he led complex, large-scale and high-value transactions for the acquisition, development, disposal and financing of projects of national significance, including interconnectors, combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT), battery storage projects, wind and solar farms, and district heating systems.

He said:

“I am thrilled to have joined Shakespeare Martineau. Not only does the commercial property and development team have excellent expertise and a strong reputation in energy and infrastructure matters, but the firm itself has a fantastic ethos and culture, which focuses on empowerment.

“I am looking forward to being part of the firm’s growth journey and I am pleased to be bringing my experience and new ideas to Shakespeare Martineau, helping to achieve the best possible outcomes for my clients.

“As the UK moves to net zero by 2050, energy matters are highly relevant to day-to-day living, as well as the future of the planet, and I am pleased to be able to play a small part in protecting our world for the future of our children.”

David and Sat’s appointments are the latest in a string of new partner hires as part of Shakespeare Martineau’s growth strategy, broadening its footprint both north and south. The firm is proactively seeking talented people to join the firm on its growth journey, including mergers, team recruitment and lateral hires nationally.

Joe Soul, partner and head of commercial property and development at Shakespeare Martineau, said:

“Both David and Sat have extensive experience across the real estate, energy and infrastructure sectors, so we are very excited about them both joining the firm. Their arrivals will bolster our capabilities and cement our reputation in the West Midlands and South East regions.”
