Timms’ Solicitor Named Junior Lawyer Of The Year

Timms’ Solicitor Named Junior Lawyer Of The Year

A Family Law solicitor at Timms Solicitors has been named Junior Lawyer of the Year at the Derby and District Law Society’s annual awards.

Jessica Barnett worked her way up with the firm and was appointed in a permanent position in the Family Law team in 2020 - working across the firm’s offices in Derby, Burton, Swadlincote and Ashby.

Jessica first worked for Timms in school summer holidays when she was 16 years-old, helping in the archiving department before moving away to read History of Art at the University of Manchester.

After completing her Masters degree at Manchester, she was invited back to Timms to cover staff illness on reception and was quickly recruited to work within the conveyancing team.

She was then appointed as a Paralegal in the Family Law department and combined full time work with studying for the law conversion course at Nottingham Law School – qualifying in June 2020.

She has now been accepted onto the Timms Associate Programme as part of her career development.

Timms managing partner Fiona Moffat said:

“Jessica is an exceptional solicitor and valued member of the Timms family so we could not be more delighted that she has been recognised in this way.

“During her tenure here, she has worked on several complex cases with care and professionalism that belies her age and has taken on additional duties to help to support organisational improvements in the overall running of the firm.

“Her many other attributes include her willingness to get involved in all aspects of our work including supporting the University of Derby Law School’s mentoring programme, networking events and Timms’ community work.”

Jessica added:

“It was a real honour to be announced as the Junior Lawyer of the Year at the annual dinner.

“Timms has given me a great grounding in the legal profession and so many opportunities to develop my career.  I am looking forward to progressing further, armed with the knowledge and experience I have gained as a lawyer here.”
