Lending a helping hand: East Mids law firm volunteers at Nottingham farm

Leading law firm Nelsons has continued its commitment to supporting the local community after five members from its Nottingham office volunteered for the day at Stonebridge City Farm.

Charlotte Cadman, paralegal, Wesley Walton, apprentice paralegal, Vikky Lai, trainee solicitor, Chelsea-Ann Read, apprentice paralegal, and Tim Atkinson, digital marketing manager, were all on-hand for the day at the urban farm.

Every year, the teams at all three of Nelsons’ offices in Nottingham, Derby and Leicester select a nominated charity to support, with the Nottingham office selecting Stonebridge City Farm.

Tim Atkinson, digital marketing manager at Nelsons, said:

“We had a fantastic day volunteering and thoroughly enjoyed meeting the team responsible for such a great charity.  Stonebridge offers a safe space for families and the community to enjoy themselves, as well as providing important training and education for the community and its visitors.”

A unique place in the heart of Nottingham, Stonebridge City Farm relies on donations to give visitors a taste of the countryside. The farm’s operation enables the charity to support more than 140 volunteers who are on-site each week, many of whom have a mental health challenge or learning disability.

The volunteering day saw the team helping with several activities around the farm, including painting walls, fences and benches, and putting up new signage.

Barbara Benner, education and volunteer support worker at Stonebridge City Farm, said:

“We were so pleased to welcome the team from Nelsons to the farm and see them get stuck into all the activities here. We’re incredibly grateful to all our volunteers who help us keep the farm running, making sure that it’s available for all to enjoy.”

Stewart Vandermark, chief executive at Nelsons, said:

“At Nelsons, we are committed to supporting the local community as much as we can, which is why our employees voted for Stonebridge City Farm as our latest nominated charity for Nottingham. The past two years have been incredibly challenging for charities across the country, so being able to support in whatever way we can is even more important to us.”

Nelsons is also continuing to support the Alex’s Wish and Macmillan Cancer Support – its nominated charities for Leicester and Derby respectively.
