SF Recruitment Crowned National Champions at Business Fives Football Tournament

Leicester based SF Recruitment have won the Business Fives national winter football tournament, raising an impressive £7000 for both the Bodie Hodges Foundation and Ukraine Appeal.

Business Fives is an organisation that runs corporate charity events. The national football tournament is a five aside event that consists of teams made up from businesses across the country. Each team that takes part nominates a charity partner who directly receives all monies raised.  The mixed events are open to all levels and abilities, with a tiered tournament that allows teams of a similar standard to play against one another.

The SF team consisted of Sam Smith (captain), Senior Recruitment Consultant at SF Recruitment Leicester, along with his football loving colleagues: Sam Coxon, Jheryl Lawrence, Rhys Hughes, Alex Kent & Mark McGowan.  They decided to take part in the Business Fives national tournament as a way of having some fun, while raising money for charity.

As the winter season reached its exciting climax on Tuesday 5th April, Sam Smith made this comment on their win:

“We were confident going into the Leicester event but didn’t expect to win the national final at all! It’s been a great team-building exercise and we are so delighted to have raised as much money as we have for such worthwhile causes.”

The competition was fierce; 36 teams took part including teams from Cooper Parry, 3M, Nordens, Love Energy Savings, Cummings Group, EDGE PS and Pro Qual AB.  SF Recruitment qualified for the National Finals by winning one of 15 regional events. The SF team boast an impressive 28 games unbeaten throughout the tournament.  The National Final took place in Manchester on 5th April 2022, where the SF team played 10 games, each lasting 10 minutes.

The main chosen charity was The Bodie Hodges Foundation, which was formed in 2012, to support families who have been bereaved of a child - of any age - and to promote organ donation. Its mission is to give hope to families by providing a range of services that encourage them to rebuild and remember. This charity was selected because two of SF’s team players were former pupils of Nick Hodges, who was a PE Teacher before he founded the Bodie Hodges foundation.

A decision was made to donate a proportion of the total winnings to a national Ukraine Appeal in light of the devastating and ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Rebecca Parnell, managing Director for SF Recruitment Leicester, is beyond proud of the team for their achievement:

“By getting involved in this tournament, we have raised £7,000; £6,500 for the Bodie Hodges Foundation & £500 for the Ukraine Appeal. I’m so proud of the determination and effort displayed by our team - exactly the qualities and attitude I see in their day-to-day work too.  We work together, we play together, and we win together”.
