Miller Homes Midlands raises nearly 8k for families across Derby in 2021

New homes builder, Miller Homes East Midlands, has revealed it raised life changing funds of £7,971 on behalf of Children First Derby throughout 2021.

The cause which was Miller Homes’ chosen charity partner during 2021, provides three key services which include a Mentoring Service and a Family Support Service to help  support local vulnerable children, young people and families  that may be experiencing distress and suffering.

Along with fundraising events which included dress down days, raffles and a ‘Miller miles challenge’, one member of the team, Alan Alsop, took part in the Iron Man Challenge raising £1,500. Miller Homes then matched the total raised to provide funds which will allow Children First Derby to continue providing its vital services which rely  on charitable donations.

Commenting on the team’s fundraising efforts, Alastair Parsons, area sales director for Miller Homes Midlands, said:

“The past two years have been extremely challenging for charities and not-for-profit organisations across the nation, especially those who offer face-to-face services. Following a series of lockdowns and large periods of isolation, the opportunities for in-person fundraising decreased in 2020 and 2021, resulting in a huge loss of funds for so many charities like Children First Derby. By coming together as a team, we were able to do our bit to support a local cause that helps so many young people and families.

“The work that Children First Derby does is integral to our wider community, helping to create safer environments for families to flourish. Many of our team have significant personal connections to this organisation, and have seen the vital work they do first-hand, which is why this cause was particularly special to us. It’s fantastic to have been able to support all their brilliant efforts as they continue to transform lives in and around Derbyshire.”

Irshad Baqui, chief executive at Children First Derby, added:

“We were delighted to have been chosen as Miller Homes East Midlands’ charity partner for 2021. Children First Derby relies on public funding and fundraising to operate our mentoring and family support services. And our fundraising capacity was greatly reduced due to the effects of the pandemic, which proved to be an incredibly challenging time for the charity.

“We’d like to thank each and every person at Miller Homes for their fantastic support and unending determination in raising this incredible amount of money for our charity. These vital funds will go towards helping us continue to support local vulnerable children, young people and families across Derbyshire.”

Miller Homes East Midlands will be continuing their support of Children First Derby throughout 2022 with a variety of fundraising events already planned for the year.
