Flourishing property group merges with building firm

The Acres Group has continued its phenomenal growth spurt with a merger.

Acres Construction, a division of the Nottingham-based Acres Group, was approached by Leicestershire building contractor, Alexa Residential after the company’s order book became too large to handle.

Alexa Residential's owner, Alexander Astle had previously been contracted by the Acres Group on a number of commercial scale residential projects and the team was aware of Acres’ ambitious expansion plans.

The deal means Alex and the four other members of Alexa’s full-time staff will now work for the Acres Group at its head office at Nottingham’s Science Park.

The move also provides Acres with direct access to around 20 additional independent contractors who have worked for Alexa Residential on a regular basis, enabling the rapidly expanding architectural group to fulfil its own burgeoning order book, providing a turnkey service from design to completion.

Edward Acres, founder and managing director of the Acres Group, said: “This merger illustrates the amazing success that the Acres Group has achieved over the past couple of years.

“I’d like to welcome Alex and his staff on board, as they will broaden the expertise and experience within the group and, particularly, our construction division.”

Edward founded Acres Architects in 2008 from his parent’s spare bedroom. Around two years ago, he decided to launch an ambitious growth strategy, which would enable a new Acres Group to deliver a linear suite of services from design concept right through to building completion.

The group now consists of several divisions including Acres Construction, Acres Interiors, Acres Developments and Online Media Video Productions (OMVP), meaning it can offer a truly unique turnkey solution for clients.

Its workforce has grown from three to more than 20 permanent staff in just 18 months, and turnover has grown from a few hundred thousand pounds to secured sales of £12m, with around £25m in the pipeline.

Edward said: “Our ambition is to become a nationally recognised business through organic growth. It was always my plan as part of the Acres Group business model to identify suitable competitors and bring them on board.”

The Acres Group can undertake every type and size of development – from private residential projects to large-scale commercial contracts.

Welcoming his new position as operations manager of Acres Construction, Alex Astle said: “This is really the perfect result for everyone concerned.

“I wanted to work with and be part of a like-minded organisation that puts clients at the forefront of everything it does and delivers the best projects possible.

“Having previously worked with Ed, I knew that he had some extremely ambitious expansion plans and was looking to grow the construction division in the Acres Group. So I figured this deal would be mutually beneficial.

“I’m now looking forward to becoming part of the Acres success story and helping the group continue its ambitious plans for growth.”

Alex will be reporting directly to Tony Moore, head of Acres Construction, who was instrumental in seeing the deal across the line.
