Level 2 hairdressing apprentice, Frances MacDonald, won the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ category for her enthusiasm and willingness to learn. She said:

“As an adult learner I was not expecting to win this at all. Undertaking an Apprenticeship means a lot to me as it has enabled me to change careers. I was previously a visual merchandiser before deciding to pursue hairdressing. An Apprenticeship has allowed me to learn as I go along, from everyone I work with, plus my tutors at College.”

On winning ‘SME Employer of the Year’, Mike Newbold from Draycotts Kia said: “Nottingham College has supported us with lots of apprentices over the years and it’s great to get recognition for what we do, especially as a small business. Watching our apprentices achieve and learn new skills is rewarding from both a personal and business perspective and we’ve employed some fantastic technicians as a result.”

Lisa Wilson, Nottingham College Executive Director - Employer Services, said:

“It was a pleasure to be part of such a great event and an honour to be surrounded by so many inspiring apprentices and committed employers.

“The ceremony was a fantastic way to celebrate the achievements of our apprentices and the perfect opportunity to shine a spotlight on Apprenticeships and the benefits they bring to businesses and individuals.

"Well done to all those nominated for awards and special congratulations to the overall winners and their employers.”

Nottingham College is the region’s leading Apprenticeship provider, working with 2000 apprentices and major employers, including: Nottinghamshire County Council, NHS and British Gypsum.
