Welcome Alistair! Former fisheries manager is the latest recruit to join award-winning Derbyshire IT firm

AN award-winning Derbyshire IT firm has made the perfect catch by recruiting a former fisheries manager to its team.

Keen angler Alistair Jacks – who has spent the last couple of years working as a manager at popular beauty spot Foremark Reservoir – joins Denby-based Axess Systems as a trainee account manager.

Alistair, who took up fishing at the age of four, said that he is delighted to have found the perfect plaice to advance his career.

“You would be surprised at how much of a cross-over there is between being manager of a fishery and trainee account manager,” said Alistair, who lives in Horsley Woodhouse.

“My previous job involved meeting and greeting customers, manning the boats which were hired out for anglers and dealing with enquiries.

“I have always had a keen interest in IT and the reputation of Axess Systems in the industry is second-to-none. They work with so many different organisations across the UK, such as housing trusts, healthcare providers and finance companies, so the variety of the job is great.

“Axess specialise in supplying and maintaining Microsoft Applications and Citrix, which is a digital workspace technology which allows staff to work from anywhere, on any device and on any network and has been vital for organisations during Covid.

“Since the pandemic, Axess have adopted a flexible, hybrid approach to working post-pandemic and my training for the role of trainee account manager will take place online. It will make up 20% of my working week here at Axess and is being delivered by Remit Training.”

Will Lingard, director at Axess Systems, said: “We are delighted with the appointment of Alistair to our team.

“He has quickly established himself within our team and his customer service and support are second to none. He’s settled into his new role so quickly.

“We are champions of apprenticeship schemes here at Axess Systems as the pathway allows us to secure a whole level of talent and to develop people at a faster pace and with better outcomes. The training – both internally and externally - is focussed around them as an individual and this creates loyalty and staff retention is often better.

“We have had great success with the apprentices we have employed and would recommend others follow suit, especially with various Government grants and incentives available.”

Founded by managing director Ed Morton just over 20 years ago, Axess Systems employs 20 people at its head office in Denby and its regional office in Southampton.

It is one of only handful of UK firms to have achieved the coveted Gold Citrix Solution Advisor level with specialism in virtualisation. Axess Systems are also a partner of tech software giants Microsoft, Veeam Silver partners and a Dell EMC Gold Partner.
