Wall of Fame to celebrate Victoria Centre's 50th birthday

Nottingham’s Victoria Centre is officially launching its 50th birthday celebrations by unveiling a ‘Wall of Fame’.

The new interactive feature arrives this Saturday (12/2/22) and will invite visitors to take a picture using a selfie screen. The image will then be printed, with shoppers placing their polaroid-size picture on a grid on the wall. Over the next few months, more than 14,000 faces will join together to reveal two secret giant pictures, marking 50 years of Victoria Centre.

As well as shoppers, employees, community heroes and local champions, the wall will also feature a host of Nottingham icons and celebrities.

Actor Vicky McClure, local legend LadBaby, football pundit and One Show host Jermaine Jenas, boxer Carl Froch MBE, Paralympic athlete Richard Whitehead MBE, Ru Paul’s Drag Race star Tia Kofi and comedian Sarah Keyworth are among the first Nottingham famous faces to appear on the wall, with more to be added in the coming weeks.

Commenting on the launch, Nigel Wheatley, centre director at Victoria Centre, said:

“2022 is a very special year for us as we celebrate 50 years in the heart of the city. Back in 1972, we were one of the first enclosed shopping centres in the UK and ever since then, we’ve welcomed millions of shoppers through our doors.

“As part of our celebrations, we’ve spent a lot of time collecting people’s memories of the centre, which will be used in special ways throughout the year. What’s become clear is that so many people have a connection with Victoria Centre, whether it’s working here, shopping with family or even meeting a loved one here for the first time – but it all boils down to people.

“That’s why we decided to start the celebrations with our Wall of Fame, highlighting all the faces that make Victoria Centre such a great place.

“For anyone unable to make it into the centre, you can still get involved by posting a selfie to Instagram or Twitter using #vcwalloffame, which we will then add it for you. We can’t wait for you to see what is unveiled when the wall is complete.”

The Victoria Centre Wall of Fame launches this Saturday on the lower mall, outside Tesco and is the first of a number of special events to mark the centre’s 50th birthday.
