Four Derbyshire companies in the running for National Business Award

The Rural Business Awards, supported by Amazon, is the only UK-wide programme dedicated to showcasing the success of rural businesses.

Four businesses from Derbyshire will represent the region at the national final of the awards, taking place virtually on Thursday 24th February 2022

[9th February 2022 Derbyshire] Four outstanding businesses from Derbyshire are preparing to attend the national final of the UK’s leading rural business awards programme, where they’re shortlisted for their outstanding accomplishments in business.

MacMartin Creative from Church Broughton, Chris Plant Mountaineering & Adventure Activities from Derby and The Welcome Team and Rural Action, both from Matlock, have been shortlisted in the national final of the Rural Business Awards, held in partnership with Amazon, which will see them compete against fellow businesses from across the UK to be named among the best rural businesses in the country.

The national final of the 2021/22 Rural Business Awards takes place virtually on Thursday 24th February, following a series of regional finals in late 2021. During the online presentation, the overall winners in each category will be announced.

The 2021/22 Rural Business Awards features 13 categories including Best Rural Start-Up Business and Best Rural Diversification Project, Best Rural Professional Services Business and The Triumph Over Adversity Award.

MacMartin Creative from Church Broughton has been shortlisted in the Best Rural Small Business category and Chris Plant Mountaineering & Adventure Activities from Derby has been shortlisted in the Best Rural Recreational or Outdoor Pursuits Business category.

The Welcome Team has been shortlisted in the Best Rural Start Up Business category and Rural Action has been shortlisted in Best Rural Start Up and Best Rural Social Enterprise category. Both companies are based in Matlock.

MacMartin Creative is a design and marketing company based on a rural business park in Church Broughton. The business is run by sisters Claire MacDonald and Anna Hutton who employ a team of seven creatives. MacMartin Creative offers support with website design, SEO marketing and content creation.

Chris Plant Mountaineering & Adventure Activities is run by Chris Plant, who travels locally and across the UK to provide outdoor activities for adventurous people.

The Welcome Team is a specialist housekeeping company that services holiday homes across the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District. The company provides cleaning and maintenance support for holiday home changeovers. The Welcome Team also offer services such as laundry, welcome baskets creation, and gardening.

Rural Action is one of 38 rural community councils in England that aims to address the inequalities of living and working in rural areas. The charity works with the local community to alleviate issues of isolation and deprivation, and difficulties accessing transport and community services.

The Rural Business Awards 2021/22 will mark the Awards’ seventh year of celebrating the success of businesses across the UK’s rural sector. 

The Rural Business Awards are the brainchild of Leicestershire businesswomen Anna Price and Jemma Clifford, who wanted to showcase the wealth of entrepreneurial talent in rural areas of Britain.

Anna Price said:

“We are excited to host a seventh year of the Rural Business Awards, and every year the competition gets tougher to judge. It’s an honour to showcase the fantastic talent of the rural sector in the UK and we wish all four Derbyshire businesses good luck ahead of the final.”

The award winners will be announced during the virtual ceremony, to be held on Thursday 24th February 2022.
