Local charity receives vital grant to support creative empowerment

SoundCafe Leicester is delighted to announce that they have been awarded a grant of £2817 to support their Creative Empowerment programme.

During the 2021 lockdown, SoundCafe delivered creative virtual workshops funded through the Leicestershire & Rutland Community Foundation. They were available to people who are or had been at risk of homelessness. This grew into small face-to-face workshops from June 2021 as restrictions were relaxed. Sessions incorporated both artistic exploration and creative writing. The grant from The Fine & Country Foundation will allow this work to continue in 2022.

The workshops offer the opportunity for participants to develop new skills, socialise in small groups, improve mental well-being and reduce isolation. The creative workshops will focus on delivering activities that empower SoundCafe’s guests to believe in themselves, undertake new activities and develop new skills. The format of future sessions will be based on guests’ suggestions and feedback.

Alan Fletcher, the Chair of the SoundCafe Trustee board, said:

“I am absolutely delighted that SoundCafe has been awarded this grant by Fine and Country which will enable our work to continue supporting those most in need. I know from our pilot workshops in 2021 that the opportunities for creative development have a significant impact on the lives of our guests and can be truly transformative for so many on the fringes of society.”
