Disability Opportunities in Sport UK (DOSportUK), based in Glossop, offers sports and physical activity opportunities to people with a disability across Derbyshire and Greater Manchester. This includes Learning Disability Basketball, Wheelchair Basketball and Multisport, with sessions focusing on fun, fitness and social interaction.
The donation from Amazon will support the running of the Chesterfield Wheelerz which is a wheelchair basketball session based at Chesterfield College. The donation will help cover costs of court hire and maintenance costs of the sports wheelchairs used.
Richard Cowlishaw-Ellison, Site Leader at Amazon in Chesterfield, said:
“Sport provides social interaction and the opportunity to build valuable life skills, and the staff and volunteers at Disability Opportunities in Sport UK ensure these opportunities are available for everyone. We’re pleased to support the charity with this donation.”
Jacob Meaton, from Disability Opportunities in Sport UK, added:
“We currently run eight weekly community sessions offering disability sport to people in the community. We aim to provide as many people with a disability the opportunity to participate in regular sport and physical activity. The donations we receive help us support our members to enjoy sport and I want to thank Richard and the team at Amazon in Chesterfield.”
The donation to Disability Opportunities in Sport UK was made as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK.
Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering more than five million healthy breakfasts to families in England.
