Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

An employee who works at Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Kegworth has received a special festive surprise in recognition of her outstanding efforts to support her colleagues.

Valentina Simukonis, who works as a fulfilment centre associate, has been nominated for an Amazon Star award in recognition of the support she gives to her colleagues.

The Amazon Star programme, now in its second year, is a UK-wide Amazon competition seeking to recognise and reward Amazon employees who make an outstanding contribution to their community through volunteering, fundraising and using their unique skills and talents to help others.

Valentina was nominated by her colleagues for being an excellent team player who helps all employees and is extremely supportive, especially to those who are deaf and with hearing impairments.

Valentina, who is originally from Lithuania, moved to the UK five years ago and has been with Amazon since 2019. Her favourite thing about working at the company is that people from all backgrounds are on her team and are treated as family.

Valentina loves people, meaning that helping others comes naturally to her. She takes time to ensure that the two employees on her team who are deaf understand instructions and they feel safe and comfortable in their roles.

Valentina’s kindness at work means she is in with a chance of winning one of three Dream Boxes – the top prize awarded as part of the programme. A Dream Box is a special delivery, worth £2,000, containing a personalised top prize to honour Amazon’s community heroes. Valentina will find out if she has won a Dream Box in the coming weeks.

Valentina said:

“I love people with all of my heart and at Amazon, it doesn’t matter where you come from - we are all friends. I consider my team here in Kegworth as family and feel privileged to be nominated for an Amazon Star award by them.”

Amazon Kegworth General Manager, Celia Syme, added:

“Valentina is a much loved and highly valued member of our team and we’re so pleased she has been nominated for an Amazon Star award. Everyone at Amazon in Kegworth wishes Valentina the best of luck ahead of the judging of this year’s competition.”
