Nottingham Castle, in partnership with local business Paper Starlights, has launched a new competition called “share the light” - designed to give the city a chance to say thank you to 12 community heroes who deserve recognition of their hard work and achievements.

The competition will run from 4 November - 12 December and all entrants must enter by sending an email to Applicants simply need to tell the Castle team why their nominee deserves to win, or how they would benefit from some extra light in their lives. Winners will be notified directly with prizes available for collection from the castle between 17-19 December 2021.

Nottingham Castle has teamed up with local business Paper Starlights, one of many independent and regional suppliers that feature in the Castle Shop. Together, they will gift one handmade star light to each winner in celebration of their efforts to share positivity and good deeds in Nottingham.

Andy Jupp, company director at Paper Starlights, said:

“As a company based in the East Midlands, it’s fantastic to be able to work with Nottingham Castle to share the light with people in the community and to thank those who have worked hard to support others during a tricky year."

The prize for the winners will be a complete Paper Starlights star lantern kit containing a handmade star lantern, cable, and bulb, ready to hang in windows this winter.

Alex Broughton, marketing and communications manager at Nottingham Castle Trust, said:

“This is a lovely gesture from Paper Starlights and we’re pleased to be able to join in and offer Nottingham residents the chance to spread a little light and joy this festive season.

“We really want to hear about all the fantastic people in our city – whether people want to nominate those that have shown great resilience throughout the pandemic, committed to building local spirit or are just a vital support to their family and friends.”
