Business Leaders need to ‘Lead from the top’ on Cyber Security

Leicester Business Leaders and Executives have been invited to learn how they can “Lead from The Top On Cyber Security” by leading IT company Your IT Department.

 

 The award-winning provider of IT support and cyber security solutions is running its first live event following a series of successful webinars during the past 18-months.

Lee Hewson, Managing Director said

“The webinars we have been running have shown that there is a clear need and desire for education around cyber security. Business leaders know they need to do something but too often dismiss cyber security as a ‘IT problem’. It really isn’t, it’s a business problem and more often than not a people problem!”

Lee continued

“SME’s are attacked every day, and the consequences can be devastating. You can see all kinds of figures being quoted when it comes to the average cost of a cyber-attack. However, it’s the unquantifiable costs that really add up. Loss of reputation and trust from your customers can cost you your business, whilst staff expect to be protected and will leave if they are not.”

The event is being held at Leicestershire County Cricket Club on the 24th November over breakfast from 7.30am and is free to attend.

Your IT Departments Sales & Marketing Director Craig Pearson explained the thinking behind the event.

“We are bringing 3 speakers together and they’ll talk about some of the simple things you need to be doing. Unlike many other cyber security events we are not about scaring people, nor about a lot of tech talk”

“The event is designed to give some insights into the real dangers and what you can do about them, not to try and convince you that some State Sponsored attack is about to take down the local High Street. We also want people to enjoy the event so there will be relaxed networking and a full breakfast for all that attend.”

The Governments Cyber Security Breaches Report, published in March, revealed just how much of an issue cyber security is for UK SME’s. Four in ten businesses (39%) and a quarter of charities (26%) report having cyber security breaches or attacks in the 12 months to March 2021. Among those businesses and charities, one in five (21% and 18% respectively) end up losing money, data or other assets. One-third of businesses (35%) and four in ten charities (40%) report being negatively impacted regardless, for example because they require new post-breach measures, have staff time diverted or suffer wider business disruption.
