New role for Axess Systems apprentice Josh – and Derbyshire business is continuing to grow

AN apprentice recruited by an award-winning IT firm to boost its sales support team has been promoted – just 12 months after joining the company.

Nineteen-year-old Josh Young, from Ashbourne, is the new Internal Account Manager at Axess Systems. He is the fourth apprentice to have been taken on permanently by the business, which has its headquarters on the Denby Hall Business Park, near Ripley.

Josh, a former bar worker who attended Lady Manners School, in Bakewell, said: “I love my job at Axess Systems and I’m delighted with this promotion; I’ve worked really hard to achieve this during a challenging year.

“Axess Systems are a very forward-thinking business and the apprentices who they have employed in the past have gone on to bigger and better things. I’m really pleased to be included in a growing list of alumni.”

Axess Systems is one of the country’s leading IT infrastructure providers and specialise in supplying and maintaining Microsoft Applications and Citrix; a digital workspace technology which allows staff to work from anywhere, on any device and on any network.

They work with various organisations across the UK, including health and housing trusts, local government, manufacturers and finance companies.

And, as the country adjusts to life post-Covid, Josh says that getting to grips with a new job and working from home has taken some adjusting.

He said: “The past year has probably been the craziest of my life. This is my first ‘proper’ full-time job, so I have had to adjust to the lifestyle that comes with that there has been so much to learn; every day I’m learning something new and gaining a deeper understanding of my role and the products or services which we provide.

“Throw in the fact that we’ve been in lockdown for most of the past year – I’ve been working from my bedroom at home – and it’s been quite the challenge. I’ve had to really push myself and dig deep but I’ve had fantastic support from my colleagues at Axess Systems.”

Will Lingard, director at Axess Systems, said: “We are delighted with how well Josh has settled into the Axess Systems team. His acquisition has been a major boost for the business at a time when, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, many organisations were making mass redundancies.

“Josh’s appointment is one of five we have made over the past 12 months. It’s an exciting time to join Axess Systems as we look to expand our services further.”

Founded by managing director Ed Morton 21 years ago, the award-winning Axess Systems employs 20 people at its head office in Denby and its regional office in Southampton.

It is one of only 11 UK firms to have achieved the coveted Gold Citrix Solution Advisor level with specialism in virtualisation and has recently become one of only three businesses in the country enrolled on to the Citrix Customer Success Management programme.
