Young Nottingham business woman builds on recent success to reach finals of national awards

The owner of a Nottingham-based architectural firm has been shortlisted for Young Business Woman of the Year at this year’s National Business Women’s Awards.

Jodie Heginbotham, from Sandiacre, is a founding director at The Practical Planning Company, which specialises in providing homeowners with the whole design and planning package for home extensions and other home improvement projects.

Recognised for demonstrating significant leadership potential and for making a distinctive contribution in her field, Jodie will find out if she’s a winner at a celebratory awards ceremony held in London on 19th November.

“I’m so excited to be shortlisted alongside so many successful women,” says Jodie. “It’s such an honour to be recognised and I’m especially proud that it’s in the Young Business Woman of the Year category.

“Having left the security of employment at a young age, with a child to support and a mortgage to pay, it means so much to me to even get this far in such a national awards programme such as this. I’d love for other young women, who might be anxious about how they’ll advance in their careers if they have children – as I was – to see that employment isn’t their only option; that they can carve out a successful career for themselves with the flexibility they need.”

Jodie has been at the forefront of The Practical Planning Company’s marketing and new business efforts throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, pivoting and expanding the scope of services while maintaining a customer-centric approach to boost growth and secure the company’s future in a highly competitive industry.

“I always knew I wanted to do things differently; to make a real difference as a young woman working in the male-dominated construction industry. I work to help other young families get the space they need and deserve, and for them to feel safe and secure throughout the entire process. Apart from providing for my own family, that’s my main motivation.”

The National Business Women’s Awards, which are sponsored by popular brands including Volvo, celebrate and seek to raise the profile of industrious, hardworking and enterprising business women nationally. Judged by a panel of top business leaders, the winners of all categories will be announced on 19 November 2021 at the Hilton Wembley Hotel in London.
