Chesterfield Nursery Fundraises for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund

Staff and children at an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ children’s nursery in Chesterfield have undertaken a fundraising challenge inspired by one of their parents to raise money for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.

Youngsters at Children 1st @ St Peter and St Paul in Chesterfield took on the challenge of walking 3 laps of their school field, an impressive total of 2,712 steps in 30 minutes. The nursery has raised a total of £1,300 for the charity with more sponsorship expected.

The fundraising activity has been inspired by, and is in support of, one of the nursery’s parents - Jodie Cassidy. Jodie is completing a continuous walk from Leeds to Chesterfield in aid of the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF).  The CHSF a national charity whose vision is to ‘support hearts for life’ and support the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit as a world-class centre of excellence by providing the funding and resouces needed to care for a patients heart, mind, family and future.

Jodie’s daughter, Callie, was born with complications in 2016 and had to undergo life saving heart surgery at the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit department at the Leeds General Infirmary. However, thanks to the amazing expertise and care of the staff at the hospital Callie is growing and developing well.

A far cry from driving from Chesterfield to Leeds as the family did when visiting Callie, Jodie will be putting her walking boots on and doing the distance by foot!

“I would like to say a massive thank you from my family and I to the nursery for arranging the activities, participating and for their generous sponsorship. Children 1st @ St Peter and St Paul have been an amazing help with both of my children.”
