Roadgas partners with local businesses for Great Big Green Week tree planting initiative

Nottingham-based Roadgas, the UK’s leading supplier of natural gas and biomethane refuelling station infrastructure, has made a significant pledge in partnership with local businesses as part of their commitment to the Climate Coalition’s Great Big Green Week - a national initiative which runs from 18th – 26th September.

Great Big Green Week is a week-long celebration of action on climate change, with over 3,000 events taking place across the country, encouraging businesses, community groups and individuals to highlight their carbon emissions in a variety of creative ways. Events range from art installations and pop-up cafes, to community stalls and concerts.

The importance of the week has been amplified by the impacts seen by extreme weather caused by climate change as well as the UK being host of COP26 - a major UN Global Climate Summit - taking place in Glasgow this November.

Roadgas’ natural gas refuelling stations play an important role in helping fleet managers to reduce their emissions, as well as delivering fuel savings of up to 40%.  Biomethane is proven to deliver a more than 85% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and could potentially improve this figure to deliver negative carbon emissions when using organic feedstocks in the production process of biogas.

For this year’s Great Big Green Week, Roadgas has partnered with Nottingham City Transport, McCann, The Dairy Creative Agency and Nottingham Rugby Club who have all agreed to make a collective green pledge through a tree planting initiative. The four businesses have come together to plant a number of saplings at Lady Bay, home to Nottingham Rugby Club, which will help towards offsetting local carbon emissions from their operations.

Nottingham City Transport is also running a competition, asking people to make their own green pledge as part of the city’s wider CN28 campaign. Entrants are asked to share them with NCT on any of  its social media channels for the duration of the Great Big Green Week. The most innovative pledge, as decided by representatives from all five participating businesses, will win a year’s free travel with NCT as well as two season tickets for Nottingham Rugby Club for the 2021/22 season.

Speaking about the initiative, Roadgas’ Marketing Director Becky Rix said,

“We’re delighted to be making our own green pledge for this year’s Great Big Green Week and play our part in not only generating awareness of the environmental challenges we face as a city, but also helping to offset the Roadgas’ carbon emissions through the planting of trees locally”

Becky continues, “The generosity and support we’ve received from Nottingham City Transport, Nottingham Rugby Club, McCann and The Dairy has been fantastic and we’re delighted to be launching this initiative as a partnership.”

“We’re now handing the baton to the people of Nottingham - asking them to make their own  green pledges and encouraging them to tell all via Nottingham City Transport’s social media channels. We want to be a force for change locally on environmental issues.  We all have a part to play in reducing our carbon footprint as companies and individuals as we look for ways to build a more sustainable future.  It’s all about our impacts so reduce, recycle and reuse whenever you can.”
