Victoria Centre's Roller Room proves 'wheely' popular

More than 10,600 people skated their way around Victoria Centre’s roller rink in August, making it the centre’s most popular summer experience to date.

The Roller Room, which featured a 10x19m rink, ran from 30 July until 30 August and saw families enjoying free skating sessions.

Its success follows previous summer experiences at the popular Nottingham shopping destination, including the Ball Pit and Confetti Room.

Visitors were also invited to make a voluntary donation to Victoria Centre’s chosen charity – Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People in Loughborough, with £3,970 being raised throughout the month.

Reflecting on the success of the Roller Room, Nigel Wheatley, centre director at Victoria Centre, said:

“What a summer it’s been! We’ve loved welcoming families and friends back to the centre after a year of restrictions and lockdowns. There have been lots of smiles, some impressive skating and several questionable disco moves – mainly from the mums and dads.

“It was disappointing not to be able to run a summer event in 2020, so we were determined to come back bigger and better for 2021. The Roller Room did just that, raising an impressive amount to support the vital work of Rainbows in the process.

“We’ve already started working with the events team behind the Roller Room to plan something extra special for Christmas. So, watch this space – a new room is coming!”
