East Midlands site managers win national awards

Two East Midlands site managers have received prestigious National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job Quality Awards for their work.

Ryan Price, from Hugglescote, and Richard Thompson, from Peterborough, have each received the award for excellence in on-site management at Redrow East Midlands’ Foxbridge Manor, Castle Donington and Hugglescote Grange, Hugglescote.

The coveted awards, which have been running for more than 40 years, aim to showcase best practice, inspire site managers and recognise the industry's top performers.

To be considered for an award, site managers must excel in all aspects of construction and site management, including quality of work, technical expertise, health and safety, as well as leadership. Judging criteria also focuses on rewarding the unique qualities and characteristics that distinguish outstanding, award-winning site managers from the competition.

Ryan, who won his first NHBC Award in 2019, followed in his father’s footsteps when joining the construction industry over 12 years ago. Excited by the progression opportunities at Redrow, he joined the company in 2010 as an Apprentice Joiner. He was promoted to Trainee Site Assistant in 2013, before being appointed as site manager in January 2018.

Richard rose through the ranks as well, earning NVQ levels 1, 2, and 3 in bricklaying before deciding to move into management, joining Barratt Homes as an Assistant Site Manager in 2016, and in 2020, he attained his aspiration of becoming Site Manager at Redrow's Hugglescote Grange, in Coalville. This is also Richard’s second NHBC Award.

Craig Bettridge, Construction Director at Redrow East Midlands, said:

“Every home developed at Foxbridge Manor and Hugglescote Grange, reflects Richard and Ryan's enthusiasm and determination, and we're thrilled that their hard work has been recognised by the NHBC.

“The Pride in the Job Award is a prestigious accolade that all site managers strive for, and for two members of our East Midlands team to receive this is truly fantastic. We are very proud to have both Ryan and Richard as part of the team.”

Commenting on his award win, Ryan Price said:

“Receiving this award is a tremendous accomplishment, and one that I am very proud of. Site management requires a lot of hard work and dedication, but is an incredibly rewarding career. Seeing our developments progress from a building site to a brand-new community with such high-quality homes is an amazing feeling, and one which makes it all worth it.

“When we hand over a home that exceeds the customer's expectations, there's nothing quite like the feeling of a job well done. To me, this isn't simply an individual honour; it's testament to the entire team's hard work. I'd like to express my appreciation to them all for their unwavering support.”

With 26 winners in the NHBC Awards this year, Redrow has one of the industry’s best records for training and developing its staff. As a member and patron of ‘The 5% Club’, Redrow is committed to ensuring at least five per cent of its work force is made up of apprentices, graduates or sponsored students.
