CHARITY PROVIDING FOOD FOR THE HOMELESS RECEIVES £1,000 DONATION FROM NOTTINGHAMSHIRE HOMEBUILDER

CHARITY PROVIDING FOOD FOR THE HOMELESS RECEIVES £1,000 DONATION FROM NOTTINGHAMSHIRE HOMEBUILDER

The donation was made as part of the developer’s Community Fund scheme and will go towards the charity’s efforts to support Nottingham’s homeless population by supplying food free of charge.

Whilst many soup kitchens and other homeless support networks closed during Coronavirus, Walkersnotts remained open and as well as supplying food on Tuesday evenings at the market, the charity added an extra night on Thursdays as they didn’t want to see anyone vulnerable going hungry.

Denise Walker, Founder of Walkersnotts, said: “We were quite shocked when we were contacted by Barratt and David Wilson Homes as it’s not very often we get a big donation like this.

“The funding will assist us to continue our journey and help those less fortunate than ourselves. The Community Fund scheme needs to be recognised more as without this donation we would be at struggling point.

“I would like to thank all those at Barratt and David Wilson Homes from everyone at Walkersnotts, and our second family of the homeless, from the bottom of our hearts for making this happen and helping us continue our work.”

Founded in 2016, Walkersnotts supplies a variety of food across four tables such as tea, coffee and soup on one table, hot food such as chips and sausages on the second, snack such as noodles and crisps that they can take away with them on the third, and the fourth table offers shoes, clothes and toiletries.

Mark Cotes, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands, said: “Walkersnotts is an incredible charity and its volunteers do an incredibly selfless job in providing food and clothes for the homeless.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute towards providing for those in need through our Community Fund scheme.”
