Nottingham Chartered Surveyors celebrate pandemic turnaround with office move after best ever quarter

Commercial property specialist Musson Liggins has purchased a new office building following its most successful three months in more than 30 years.

The East Midlands firm has this month moved into Brigade House, in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, after previously leasing premises in Clarendon Street, Nottingham.

The move represents a major turnaround in fortune for the company, which, like many sectors, was hard hit by the Covid pandemic.

But as restrictions began to ease and industry confidence returned, Musson Liggins has reported its ‘best ever’ quarter since launching in 1987.

The consultancy’s new home is a beautifully restored Grade II-listed building in Albion Street, in the heart of Beeston town centre. The 2,872 sqft, two-storey converted Victorian mill is the former home of Nottinghamshire Boys’ Brigade.

David Bladen, one of Musson Liggins’ three directors alongside Graham Parkinson and Matthew Wade, said:

“The pandemic has been hard, and we really had to dig deep to keep things going.

“But thanks to the hard work of the whole team, we have bounced back over the past few months and have seen record figures. It’s quite incredible, given how devastating to our business the pandemic might have been.”

During the pandemic, Musson Liggins has seen former graduate surveyor Jack Farrell become fully Chartered, meaning the firm now has five Chartered Surveyors among its line-up of property experts.

David said that the decision to move into the Grade II-listed premises in Beeston was the result of many years of planning.

“We have always had aspirations to buy our own office,” he said. “

And that dream is now a reality. It’s amazing really, that everything has all fallen into place so well after such a challenging year, we are very proud of what we have achieved.”

The company chose Brigade House partly due to its exposed beams and bags of character, but also due to the accessibility of the location for clients and its potential for expansion of the firm.

David said:

"Much of our work is in Nottingham, Derby and Leicester, so Beeston is an ideal location for us. Beeston is one of the up-and-coming areas of Nottinghamshire and is attracting many new names, a new cinema and a raft of bars, restaurants, and cafe culture.

“We see Beeston as the place to be. Our clients can park easily in the town, and join us for meetings, lunches out and drinks with ease.”
