LEICESTERSHIRE GIN DISTILLER RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION

Burleighs Gin, the Leicestershire distiller, has been awarded both silver and bronze medals in a renowned international competition dedicated to the wine and spirits industry.

Competing against spirits from 86 countries and over 1,000 different gins, the Burleighs Distiller’s Cut Gin received a prestigious silver award, whilst its Pink Edition Gin and Signature Gin were presented with a bronze award during the International Wine and Spirits 2021 Competition (IWSC) – the world's largest and most influential international spirit awards.

Judged by renowned experts from across the global spirits trade, the IWSC involves a tightly structured and rigorous tasting process. The ‘double blind’ method is used, which means samples are tasted in pre-poured numbered glasses to ensure the experts never see a bottle for full impartiality.

The Burleighs Distiller’s Cut Gin, a crisp and fresh gin that is distilled with a higher proportion of soft, sweeter and more floral ingredients, was given a total of 91 points out of 100. It was described by one of the judges as having a “creamy palate with some juniper spice and bright floral tones. Bold, but balanced throughout with some really attractive juniper notes."

The Pink Edition Gin from the Burleighs Gin core range was described as having a “lovely balance”, and the Burleighs Signature Gin, which is distilled with 11 carefully selected botanicals including silver birch, dandelion, burdock and elderberries, scooped a bronze for its “spiced lingering finish.”

Sam Watson, commercial director at Burleighs Gin, said:

“For three of our products to be presented with awards in such a reputable competition is such a fantastic achievement for Burleighs Gin.

“We knew when we entered the IWSC that our products would be competing against other high-calibre spirits, which makes it even more rewarding to have come away with a silver medal and not one, but two bronze awards.

“At Burleighs, we’re constantly pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a gin brand, and we’re looking forward to developing even more industry-first products to complement the three award-winning products in our core range.”

Burleighs Gin Academy has recently relaunched its popular distillery tours and gin distilling experiences at its revamped headquarters, based on Bawdon Lodge Farm near Loughborough, after being closed throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
