Lockdown easing paves way for a summer to remember

The chief executive of Leicestershire County Cricket Club has welcomed the latest government announcements on lockdown and is confident of a summer to remember for local communities.

Sean Jarvis, who joined the club as CEO in March 2020, was relieved to hear that restrictions are to be eased on July 19th, paving the way for crowds to flock to a wide range of events that have been planned to give the community a lift following a challenging period.

He said,

“We’ve worked hard as a club to create an events calendar that is appealing to all members of the Leicestershire community. Like so many other sporting organisations, it has been a real test during the pandemic. We had always planned to hold events this summer, regardless of restrictions, and had been putting measures in place to ensure complete community safety and confidence. With the recent news on restrictions easing, we are raring to go and can’t wait to welcome people back.

“The last 18 months have been hard on everyone, so opening the Uptonsteel county ground up for our community to be able to see their loved ones and enjoy what they’ve missed has been hugely important for us.”

With a wide variety of events already lined up, the Uptonsteel County Ground is the place to be this summer. Whether it’s for a night out with friends or missing family get-togethers, Leicestershire County Cricket Club has something for everyone.

The club has launched a number of initiatives to encourage more families back outdoors, including a free entry fixture on Tuesday 20th July. Further, all kids’ tickets are just £1 for the one-day Royal London Cup, with an adult ticket, starting 22nd July. LCCC is also backing women’s cricket with the England Women vs New Zealand Women One Day International match this September.

There will also be plenty of non-sporting action as the club continues its policy of hosting events that aim to bring the wider community together. An outdoor cinema will be showing a variety of films for anyone, from the award-winning Bollywood movie Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela to the smash-hit Mamma Mia! Children and families will be catered for with the classic animated film Toy Story or the iconic Top Gun.

And if you’re not quite ready to travel to the West End, you can enjoy the dazzling collection of performers straight from the stage, including former stars if the smash hit musical ‘We Will Rock You’, with An Evening of Queen. Or, for one night only, enjoy An Evening of Tina: a one-night spectacular concert featuring Tina Turner’s biggest hits from a vast back catalogue of iconic performances. With stars from London’s West End, this intimate show is not to be missed!
