Nottingham boy enjoys his first-ever museum visit thanks to Nottingham Castle

NOTTINGHAM CASTLE has opened its gates for free for one young visitor – six-year-old Zion from Arnold and his family. After revealing on day 18 of the Castle Countdown, that he had never been to a museum before, Nottingham Castle Trust decided to gift tickets to ensure Zion had the best possible first museum experience.

Zion and his family spent the day (11 July) exploring the multitude of treasures and activities that bring to life 1,000-years of history at Nottingham Castle, which reopened on 21 June. From exploring the unique rebellious history of the city and firing a virtual longbow in the innovative Robin Hood Adventures, to having fun exploring the brand-new adventure playground, Hood’s Hideout, the family made the most of all that was on offer.

In addition to Zion’s free tickets, the Castle recently teamed up with the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which funded fifty pairs of free tickets to anyone in Nottingham purchasing a lottery ticket.

Nottingham Castle Trust is proud to facilitate a range of community projects as part of its commitment to make the Castle as accessible to city residents as possible. Other initiatives include dedicated future open and heritage days as well as a ten percent discount for Nottingham residents living in postcode district of NG1 to NG9, and NG11, plus a “pay what you can afford” program.

Debbie Beardall, Director of Commercial and Customer Services at Nottingham Castle Trust, said:

“As a not-for-profit charity, the Trust is committed to making the museum experience, and its various educational benefits, open to all.

“Our aim is to inspire a sense of belonging – this is everyone's Castle and reflects the shared stories of the city. We hope Zion enjoyed his first experience of visiting a museum and will be back again in the future as part of the many open days and school trips we’ll be offering.”
