NET becomes 700th signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant in the East Midlands

Nottingham’s tram network has reached a significant milestone in becoming the 700th organisation to sign the Armed Forces Covenant in the East Midlands region.

A number of veterans and Reservists already work at Nottingham Express Transit (NET) and Director and General Manager Paul Robinson said the signing demonstrates a commitment to be an Armed Forces friendly organisation.

“Armed Forces personnel bring a wealth of transferable skills and experience to the network and the wider light rail sector, be that as veterans or Reservists,” he explained.

“As well as marking our support for the Services, signing the Covenant is also a recognition of the contribution to the organisation made by the 18 veterans and Reservist that we currently employ.”

Bruce Spencer, Director of Employer Engagement at East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, commented:

“We are delighted that our significant, 700th signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant in the East Midlands is NET. As a large employer who is a central part of the local economy and community, it sets an example to follow. We look forward to working more closely with the operator to develop their Armed Forces policies.

“The Armed Forces Covenant recognises the contribution of our military personnel and is essential to ensure they receive fair treatment and recognition of the service they have provided to the country.”

The significant signing comes just days before Armed Forces Week, a public celebration of the contribution of the Armed Forces to society.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a pledge to treat those who serve or who have served, and their families, with fairness and respect.  It encourages organisations to develop a mutually beneficial relationship with the Armed Forces community, and provides an opportunity to recognise publicly the value that serving personnel, Regulars and Reserves, veterans and military families contribute to the country.
