People and Skills Week 2021: The Skills Landscape Beyond Recovery

Wednesday, 16 June 2021 - 9:30am - 12:00pm

Overview

With the economy emerging from the impact of the past 12 months, the East Midlands Chamber 2021 People and Skills Week will explore what skills are required to support recovery and growth, to what extent they exist in the region, and how we can work collectively to deliver skills for the economy beyond the recovery.

Through a series of workshops, seminars and a centre piece Summit, the week’s activities will focus on how we create an environment where policy-makers, employers, educators and individuals themselves can work together to ensure we can respond to the seismic shift taking place in local jobs markets across the East Midlands.

We will also explore what the evolving policy landscape for skills means for our local communities – including the Skills for the Future White Paper, Apprenticeship and T-Level Reforms, the green agenda,  and more.

Sessions delivered throughout the week will explore:

  • how we lessen the impact of the pandemic on the jobs market in the region
  • ensure we deliver the skills that will respond to the climate emergency challenge
  • ensure training provision is responsive to employers needs
  • how to capture the productivity benefits gained over the past year
  • the support required to transition young people into the jobs market
  • what skills are essential to address the climate crisis
