New era for Ashbourne hair salon

New era for Ashbourne hair salon

KH Hair in Ashbourne has announced it is under new management and is celebrating the return of a local mother and daughter team who say they are delighted to have ‘come home’ to the salon.

Ashbourne duo, Jane Lloyd and daughter, Beckie Manzenko, began their KH Hair careers at the salon many years ago before leaving to take over the running of the Group’s Tutbury franchise in 2008. Beckie began working at the St John Street salon at the tender age of thirteen and says she is delighted to be back.

“All I ever wanted was my own salon,” she explains.  “So, when the opportunity to run Tutbury came up, my Mum and I had to jump at it, even though it was a real wrench to leave Ashbourne. Then, when the Ashbourne franchisees recently announced they were leaving, we couldn’t bear the thought of the salon having to close its doors and for the hard-working team to lose their jobs, so we decided we just had to do something about it,” she adds.

Beckie, who has a six-month-old daughter, says she knows that opening another business in the middle of a global pandemic certainly isn’t exactly going to be easy.

“With recent salon closures and all the uncertainty about the coming months, we know it’s going to be very hard work but, if we hadn’t given it a go, I know we would always have regretted it, she says.

Beckie says the Tutbury team are all behind the new venture. “If they weren’t all on board with it, we wouldn’t have gone ahead,” she explains.

“We have quite a unique way of working at Tutbury.  There is no hierarchy, and everyone contributes at every level.  I believe this is why we’ve been successful and I’m really excited to bring the two teams together within the KH Hair family.”

KH Hair Group managing director, Darren Messias, says that while this is a very exciting time for the Ashbourne salon, he feels sadness at losing two of the KH Hair family in outgoing franchisees, Helen Bailey and Julie Everly.

“Beckie and Jane are Ashbourne born and bred and, having started their KH Hair careers at the salon, I know both of them and myself are really excited to see what the next part of the journey holds for us,” he says. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Helen and Julie for all their loyalty and efforts over the years and I wish them and their families the best health and happiness for the future.”

“We’re really looking forward to seeing some of our old clients again and meeting new ones and we’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received so far,” adds Beckie. “KH Hair is in my blood and both Mum and I are very passionate about living and working in Ashbourne, so this really is a dream come true for us. It feels like we’re home at last.”
