Autism West Midlands is located close to the homebuilder’s B5 Central development on Barrow Walk. With more than 60,000 people in the UK living autism, the charity works across the county with people on the autistic spectrum.

The funding, which comes as the developers’ ongoing commitment to supporting the areas in which it builds, will go towards PPE for the charity’s staff and volunteers.

Philip Middlewood, Chief Executive of Autism West Midlands, said: “We have to spend thousands of pounds on PPE to keep our staff and residents safe, so Barratt Homes’ donation will go towards the cost of this.

“The pandemic has had an enormous impact on our charity, and any contribution towards our work helps us to provide support to families and residents living in our services during this difficult time.”

Autism West Midlands helps people with autism to live as independently as possible in their own homes or residential care. They provide events and activities to support families, as well as a helpline that is used by thousands of people annually. They also provide training to organisations and individuals in order to make them autism friendly.

Philip continued: “Schemes such as Barratt Homes’ Community Fund help support local communities and the organisations that support people within the local area.

“Thank you so much for helping us to support people with autism, as well as those who love and care for them. At the moment our primary aim is to keep our staff, and all who we support, safe and well during these uncertain times. The funding Barratt has provided will definitely go towards this.”

Dominic Harman, Managing Director of Barratt Homes Mercia, said: “Autism West Midlands is an excellent example of a local organisation going the extra mile to support families and people with autism in the local community. As a leading housebuilder it is important for us to support organisations close to our developments and help them continue to provide for the community.

“We are happy to provide a donation that will aid Autism West Midlands PPE costs so that they can continue the excellent work that will no doubt be vital to people with autism during these difficult times and beyond.”
