Local motor business helps bring Christmas to Beaumond House Hospice patients

Staff at Newark-based motor specialist group, Motorfinity, have teamed up with Beaumond House Hospice Care to provide Christmas dinners to patients in their homes just in time for Christmas.

On the menu is a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, carefully-prepared by staff at the Lord Nelson pub in Winthorpe and funded by the team at Motorfinity.

The hospice, on London Road, has also received donations of Christmas cakes from businesses and members of the public.

Each Christmas dinner package will be delivered by the Beaumond House team and dropped off at each patients’ homes on Christmas Eve.

Explaining more about why such donations are so important at this time of year, Kat Wright, events and corporate fundraising manager at the hospice, said:

“Christmas is often a very difficult time for many of our patients but especially so this year. Many of our patients are extremely vulnerable and, as a result, the current COVID-19 pandemic has left many of them unable to visit family. When one of our patients told our nurses they weren’t going to bother with Christmas dinner at all this year, we wanted to find a way to help.

“Our plan was to link up with a local pub – but given that many pubs and restaurants have not been able to take bookings this Christmas, it didn’t seem right to ask for a donation. However, Motorfinity stepped in at the right time to offer to support our fundraising efforts.”

Daniel Briggs, managing director at Castle Gate-based Motorfinity, said:

“It has been a challenging year for so many people but for those receiving end-of-life care, Christmas can feel really isolating and lonely. We believe everybody deserves to have a special christmas and it’s a privilege to be able to support Beaumond House Hospice Care and help spread a little festive cheer to so many in need.

“Beaumond House does invaluable work in the community each and every day. The staff work tirelessly throughout the year to improve their patients’ quality of life and this Christmas Day initiative is just one example of what they do.”

Beaumond House Hospice Care provides supportive palliative care to patients and their families living in and around Newark. In addition to their four in-patient beds for people with palliative care needs, they also offer day therapy and a Hospice at Home service that provides compassionate support to the community.
