Gearing up for Christmas treats

Thousands of mince pies and chocolate treats will be made and distributed by East Midlands-based Birds Bakery in the week leading up to Christmas Day.

  • Craft bakers Birds Bakery expected to distribute 25,000 mince pies this week
  • 40,000 Christmas cupcakes and 10,000 mini chocolate logs expected to be sold by the end of December

This month has already seen almost 400,000 mince pies, 40,000 cupcakes and 10,000 mini chocolate logs, distributed and sold from the bakeries 61 shops, in order to provide consumers with a savoury or sweet treat throughout the festive period.

Famous for its cream cakes, freshly baked bread and pork pies, Birds will be working around-the-clock to meet the demand as production increases tenfold in December.

Mike Holling, sales and marketing director at Birds Bakery, said:

“December is the busiest time of the year at Birds and everyone has been working hard to deliver mince pies and baked goods across the country, in time for Christmas.

“We gear up for the Christmas orders months in advance, to make sure that we produce plenty of products. As we approach the big day the number of lorry-loads making their way to our stores, and providing our home delivery service, almost triples.

“Christmas will be different this year, for many people, and with plans changing at the very last minute, our home delivery service will be available.

“We hope that we can bring some festive cheer to local communities and provide people with their favourite festive treats to lift moods and keep spirits high.”

The family-run bakery has also recently expanded its home delivery service by introducing a new essentials pack and a cheese selection range, to support those who will be entertaining at home this year or are unable to leave the house and has been delivering these in its new festive van.
