Housebuilder donates grand prize for village’s best Christmas lights

A luxury chocolate hamper donated by Chestnut Homes will be awarded to the winner of Dunholme’s inaugural Christmas lights competition.

The contest has been organised by Dunholme Parish Council to help bring some festive cheer to the village after its plans to host a Christmas market were stopped by the coronavirus pandemic.

Throughout December, parish councillors will be touring the village in search of the most impressive and eye-catching festive decorations displayed on residents’ homes.

Prizes will be awarded to several households, with one overall winner receiving the grand prize of the Hotel Chocolat hamper.

Laura Richardson, Clerk of Dunholme Parish Council, said:

“This is the first year that we are hosting a Christmas lights competition in the village.

“The original plan was to host our own Christmas market in the village but because of Covid-19, that couldn’t happen. We still wanted to do something with the community, and we thought that a lights competition would be a safe way of keeping the community spirit high throughout the festive period.

“We are extremely grateful to Chestnut Homes for donating the top prize for the competition. We wanted a prize that would be suitable for people of all ages, so a chocolate hamper is perfect.”

Chestnut Homes is currently building new homes at The Meadows development off Lincoln Road.

Helene Key, Sales Manager at Chestnut Homes, said:

“It is wonderful to see Dunholme Parish Council finding new, safe ways to encourage the residents of the village to take part in Christmas activities.

“As we are building at The Meadows development in Dunholme, we feel very much a part of the village community and thought it was only fitting that we show our support for the Christmas lights competition. We hope it encourages people to get into the festive spirit and we can’t wait to see the entire village lit up.”
