Specialist business and property disputes lawyer bolsters Leics team

Expert dispute resolution partner and solicitor Andy Rudkin has joined leading Leicester-based law firm Nelsons.

With more than 13 years of experience, Andy has added a wealth of knowledge to Nelsons’ expanding dispute resolution team. He specialises in all areas of commercial and property litigation including boundary disputes and commercial contract disputes, and regularly advises on all areas of corporate and personal insolvency litigation.

Andy, who joins Nelsons from Burton upon Trent’s Else Solicitors, where he was a partner and head of the dispute resolution department, said:

“I am thrilled to have joined Nelsons – it is a large and respected regional law firm with a national presence and a forward-thinking partnership.

“Starting a new job in the midst of a pandemic could’ve been a challenge, especially while working from home, but Nelsons has ensured its employees have all the necessary technology to enable agile and secure working – allowing us to quickly and easily engage with and service clients remotely.”

Andy graduated from the University of Leeds with a degree in law in 2005, before completing his Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the College of Law in Chester the following year. He then started his career in Kent as a trainee solicitor at Warners Solicitors in Tonbridge and Sevenoaks, and, subsequently, an associate solicitor at Buss Murton Law, in Tunbridge Wells, before moving to the East Midlands in 2009.

He said:

“Commercial and property dispute resolution is an incredibly interesting area of law, particularly due to the variety – no two days are ever the same. I enjoy learning about so many different types of businesses, getting to grips with the problems they are facing and thinking outside the box to come up with a solution. The job is challenging yet it is very gratifying to help clients reach an agreement with their opponents and to come out of a dispute with a very satisfactory result.

“I’m passionate about understanding my clients’ businesses and building strong relationships with them to become a trusted adviser and commercial outlet for them. I’m dedicated to supporting Nelsons’ talented, knowledgeable and skilful dispute resolution department in its aims to become the go-to commercial litigation practice in the Midlands.

“As well as nurturing and growing my network based in Leicestershire, I will continue to work with the clients and contacts I have built up during my career in Derbyshire, London and the South East.”

While at Nelsons, which also has offices in Nottingham and Derby, Andy will be working alongside the firm’s 26 other dispute resolution specialists, including three in Leicester.

Cathryn Selby, head of Nelsons’ dispute resolution team, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Andy to Nelsons and to our growing team. His expertise has added breadth to the department, and I know he will be a real asset to our Leicester team. I am looking forward to seeing him flourish in his new role.”
