Leicestershire small business mentor wins Enterprise Nation’s 2020 Top 10 Advisers Award

Leicestershire-based bid writing expert James Kent, director of Your Tender Team, has been crowned the UK’s Top Sales Adviser for the professional support he provides to businesses and entrepreneurs, helping them grow by writing winning contract proposals within their industry or sector.

The virtual awards ceremony, which announced the winners of the Enterprise Nation Top 50 Advisers competition, across a range of professional disciplines such as legal, finance and funding, technology, HR, PR and marketing and a special ‘Above & Beyond’ category – took place on the evening of 25th November.

James was picked from hundreds of advisers from up and down the UK, nominated for the behind-the-scenes guidance they have given to local entrepreneurs and small businesses, helping them navigate the challenges and opportunities they have faced during 2020 – not least Covid; for many, this professional advice has made the difference between their business surviving, or thriving.

He is a Director at market-leading bid writing firm Your Tender Team, which has advised businesses across multiple sectors and industries on tendering, helping them to win contracts and grow their businesses.

James said:

“We specifically help businesses compete with larger companies in their sector by offering a market leading tender writing resource. Often, larger companies can afford to have their own internal bid writing teams. Our service offers businesses the option of using us as and when required – keeping down costs, and enabling to directly compete with their larger rivals.

“We've helped numerous SMEs grow in dramatic fashion over the years, helping them double and treble their turnover following tender wins. This year in particular, we've helped an increasing number of small companies survive by helping them win public sector tenders when they have seen a huge drop in private sector work – which has happened frequently since March when the effects of Covid began to be felt. For example we recently helped a client in the health and social care sector, which had historically relied on private sector work, win more local authority tenders thereby helping them pivot their business model to great success. By assisting clients achieve a balance of public and private sector work, we’ve helped businesses become more robust going forward."

He added:

“Speaking personally, if my expertise and advice can help give businesses a better chance of survival and contribute to the wider economic recovery – especially during these particularly challenging times – then it’s time well-spent not to mention professionally rewarding.”

The Top 50 Adviser Awards are run by the UK’s leading small businesses network Enterprise Nation – in association with Xero, Dell Technologies and Neat – and set out to highlight the work done behind the scenes by experts across nine professional disciplines, in helping Britain’s army of entrepreneurs to build and grow a sustainable business.

The list of winners in the nine professional categories was compiled following a public vote on the shortlisted Top 50 SME-nominated advisers, with almost four thousand votes cast over a two-week period.

Collecting the award, James said:

“I am honoured to be crowned a Top 10 Adviser in the UK. This is the one award we really wanted as it recognises our firm’s achievements in advising clients on over £2bn worth of tender wins in the UK. Our advice and success leads to growth for clients, new job opportunities and can also help transform local areas following a tender win. We believe our efforts can be felt beyond just winning a tender, they can benefit the wider society and local areas. And of course a huge thank you to Enterprise Nation, Dell Technologies, Xero and Neat as well as everyone who voted for us.”

He added:

“For all of its challenges, it appears our collective hard work during 2020 has paid off; We look forward to supporting many more clients succeed with winning tenders in the years ahead!"

Emma Jones, founder of Enterprise Nation said:

“Business advisers are the unsung heroes behind Britain’s booming small business culture and their insight and experience are needed now more than ever.

“The awards were designed to show how important their work is in action and the entries have uncovered incredible advice efforts that have helped firms pivot to keep trading.

“2020 has also seen a record increase in the number of start-ups. These fledgling businesses can greatly benefit from the expertise and support of a professional adviser, in particular during their crucial ‘make-or-break’ first year."
