Film celebrates all ProCon Award winners

On the day that the 2020 ProCon Leicestershire Awards ceremony was due to take place a quickfire video of all the previous winners has been released.

Postponed because of the coronavirus epidemic, the ceremony was due to welcome 620 finalists, sponsors and guests from property and construction.

To mark the moment and celebrate past winners of the awards for new buildings and construction projects, the video at procon-leicestershire.co.uk takes a whistle-stop tour from 2003 to 2019.

During those years there have been more than 100 awards, in categories including residential, regeneration, infrastructure and sustainability.

Projects in Leicester won almost half of the awards, with Loughborough picking up six. Hinckley, Market Harborough and Coalville secured two each and Melton had a single winner.

Almost a quarter of the winning projects were in education, including universities, colleges and schools. Leisure destinations scored well and the boom in student accommodation saw four awards won from 2013 to 2018.

ProCon chair Umesh Desai, from De Montfort University, said:

“This month we should have been celebrating the 2020 ProCon Leicestershire Awards.

“The champagne may be on ice until next year, but this look back at 17 years of previous winners is a chance to applaud again the incredible work of our property and construction colleagues since 2003.

“It is fascinating to look again at all the award-winning new buildings, the reinvention of old ones, the vital infrastructure, the bridges, the schools and many more projects that have improved our built environment.

“It is thanks to all our sponsors over almost two decades that the awards happen each year and we now have this canon of work to admire. And huge thanks go to our current sponsors, who have committed their support into 2021 so we all have a very special celebration to look forward to.”

The ProCon Awards 2020-2021are backed by three corporate sponsors. They are Salus Approved Inspectors, Unique Window Systems and Vistry Partnerships. The Leicester Mercury is the media partner.
