J Tomlinson appointed on East Midlands Ambulance Service facilities management contract

Nottingham-based integrated building and maintenance services company, J Tomlinson, has partnered with East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) after being awarded a 3-year, comprehensive facilities management (FM) contract worth approximately £1.2m per year.

The contract, which includes a possible two-year extension, covers the management of planned and reactive works and grounds maintenance to EMAS buildings, including ambulance stations, training centres, air ambulance units, patient reception centres and standby locations, across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The partnership further cements J Tomlinson’s position as one of the nation’s leading emergency service hard FM providers, bringing to ten the number of key blue-light clients that J Tomlinson is currently working, including South Central Ambulance Service, West Midlands Ambulance Service, South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, Humberside Fire and Rescue, North Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Police and Humberside Police.

Mobilisation and contract commencement took place in the midst of the Covid-19 national lockdown period, with both organisations working closely together to ensure a safe and seamless start, bolstered by excellent communications, stringent risk assessments and key mitigation strategies.

Managing director repairs, maintenance and FM at J Tomlinson, Steve Kirkland, said:

“J Tomlinson is very pleased to have partnered with East Midlands Ambulance Service to manage the organisation’s facilities management following safe mobilisation of the contract in the midst of the Covid-19 national lockdown period earlier this year.

“As a specialist provider of FM services to the blue-light sector, we are well-versed in the challenges and sensitivities of working in this environment – particularly in light of the current global pandemic, which has significantly increased demands on urgent and emergency care across the UK. We’re proud to support EMAS in remaining fully operational and able to deliver emergency response across the East Midlands – which is particularly vital given the current climate.”

The appointment covers a comprehensive facilities management service, including service, repairs and planned improvement works spanning the maintenance of building and civil engineering, firefighting equipment and systems, automatic doors, drainage, ventilation, heating, critical power, power systems, lifts, water service, security lock code changes, fuel storage, pest control, and grounds and maintenance.

The purpose of the contract is to ensure that EMAS buildings are operationally safe, secure and statutorily compliant, and to maximise the useful life span of the buildings, plant and equipment, and to ensure efficient and cost-effective use of those assets.

J Tomlinson is servicing the contract from its local Beeston-based contact centre just five miles from EMAS HQ, providing a 24-hour-a-day, seven-days-a-week, 365-days-a-year service, including emergency response.

The company provides a range of integrated building solutions – working across all major sectors - including facilities management, construction, refurbishment, engineering services and repairs and maintenance. The company operates primarily across the East Midlands, West Midlands and Yorkshire.

Founded in the 1950s, J Tomlinson has its headquarters in Beeston, Nottingham, and regional offices in Wakefield, Yorkshire, Canwell in the West Midlands, Newton-le-Willows in Merseyside, and Billingham, near Middlesbrough.
