Nottingham city centre school gets £2.5k donation from The Island Quarter

A Nottingham primary school in Sneinton has been provided with much-needed funds to support children with online learning, after the developer behind The Island Quarter www.theislandquarter.com site donated £2,500.

St Stephen’s Cof E Primary School will be using the funds donated by The Conygar Investment Company PLC to purchase a number of iPads to support the school with its remote learning tools.

The iPads will be provided to children who do not have access to online learning while self-isolating or staying at home as a result of potential school closures, due to the on going coronavirus pandemic.

Christopher Ware, property director at Conygar, said:

“When schools were closed back in March, children across the country were forced to transition to home learning and some were not fortunate enough to have access to the types of technology that they use at school.

“As such, it’s never been more important for our youngsters to get back to the classroom. However, we understand the need for effective remote learning equipment due to the on going nature of the pandemic and that’s why we wanted to play a small part in supporting the city’s children with this donation.”

Kelly Lee, headteacher at Sneinton St Stephen’s Cof E Primary School, said:

“We are extremely grateful to The Conygar Investment Company for its kind and generous support. The donation will ensure that children who may have struggled to access online learning are now able to continue learning from home, ensuring they can access our exciting and rich world-class curriculum.

“We are passionate about ensuring that every child is able to reach their potential and by ensuring that our children have the resources and technology they need to do so will make a huge difference.”

Councillor David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council, said:

“Conygar has already made an extraordinary commitment to redeveloping an enormous area that has needed it for some time, and I am pleased to see the company getting involved in the local community as part of its efforts to invest in Nottingham.

“Covid has provided numerous challenges, especially in schools, as we try and keep some sense of normality for children so they can continue their education in spite of the pandemic. It’s great to see our partners getting involved in these times and I hope they can set an example to other companies wondering how they can do their bit for Nottingham too.”

November marks the scheduled start date for work on The Island Quarter’s long awaited first phase Canal Turn after it was given planning approval by Nottingham City Council last month.

The approved plans include a three-story 2,000 sqm pavilion on the waterfront, featuring two restaurants, circa 500 sqm of events space and a large rooftop terrace.

The plans also feature provision for a bandstand and a substantial area of new, attractive public realm – all of which will open up the canal basin area, enhancing one of Nottingham’s most under-utilised assets.
