Lewis joins international artists for special London exhibition

Nottingham College graduate, Lewis Andrews,showcasedhis workalongside international artists at the Espacio Gallery in London, earlier this month, in a special exhibition exploring artists’ responses to Covid-19.
The‘Reality and its Disorders’exhibition,organised by the‘Degrees of Freedom’artist group, was influenced bythe global pandemic,the effects oflockdown and the ways in which it hasshapedourlives.
Works, including video;performance;installation;painting;photography and print were exhibited by an impressiveinternational line up of more than 30 artists, represented from Italy, Serbia, Germany and New York, as well as across the UK.
Lewis, 23, completed a BTEC Level 3 Art and Design course at the College back in 2016 and is now studying towards a Masters in Fine Art at Leeds Arts University. During the exhibition he was reunited with his former College tutors,Tom Hackett and Julian Woodcock, who were also exhibiting at the show.
Tom said:
“It is really important for us as art lecturers to lead by example and be active artists, and it was fantastic to find Lewis was also involved in the show. Nothing warms my heart more than seeing students old and new getting their work out there and joining us in the real art world - it stands as a vindication of everything we try and teach at Nottingham College.”
Lewis' 'Quarantined Light' photographs investigate how we could use natural sunlight as means to connect to our loved ones in a time where we seem most isolated and anxieties are at an all-time high.
He said:
“In these challenging times it felt good to use my artwork to bring some enjoyment to people. It’s always great to get your work out there for the public to see, and it was wonderful to have my photographs displayed alongside my former tutors.
“Attending Nottingham College was the best path for me to progress further with my art practice. It allowed me to open-up ideas and processes within my work, which I'm still working with to this day as I study towards my Masters Degree.”
